On Top of the World

One of the concept I have had the pleasure of speaking to groups nationally about is holistic approach to success called Heart, Mind, Body. In this I discuss at length how all three areas of your life must be in line before you can move towards success! I challenege my team regularly to make sure they focus on perfecting this concept daily. It may seem pointless to work on these habits every day once you feel you already have them down, but I wouldn't recommend you do anything I don't do...

After years of studying tremendously successful people from many different fields, I have noticed one consistent theme and that is they have a set of daily habits. Every tremendously successful person has a routine they do every day, and while I am not going to hand you a blueprint for the perfect way to structure your day, I will challenge you to do a few things to create your own consistent routine! I have broken my recommendations for how to do that into 5 simple steps...

1) Set a steady sleep schedule- I'm not going to tell you when that schedule should be, everyone has different circumstances based on your industry and lifestyle, BUT it is absolutely essential that you are consistent!

Recommendation: Set a reminder to go to bed and set an alarm to wake up. The snooze button on these notifications can be DETRIMENTAL to your success

2) Do something that falls into the "Heart" category- This is something to do with helping you with your 'why' and making you a 'better person'. This can be something as simple as meditation, prayer, keeping a daily journal of things you are thankful for, or building your dream board, but all of these things

Recommendation: Figure out an activity that helps you clear your mind while feeling enriched. This will help you to lower your stress levels and keep your goals in front of you!

3) Do something that falls into the "Mind" category- The Mind category is one that gets worked on a lot in the early stages of success but tends to be forgotten once you 'get it'. You must always be growing in this area because when your mind stops growing, it begins declining. I recently had a conversation with a gentleman who is, according to formal certifications, the highest level you can be in his particular field. He revealed to me that since he received his certification almost 10 years ago, he doesn't remember the finer details of the complex theories and practices that he doesn't use or reference on a regular basis. Most people work very hard to become an "expert" in their given field but fail to continue their self education.

I like to say that I have earned a PhD in Success since graduating college because of the number of books I read, audiobooks I listen to, webinars I watch, conferences I attend, and number of successful people I receive mentorship frequently.

Your mind is either growing or declining, so choose to use it so you don't lose it! The amount of quality information you consumer daily will directly reflect on how much you achieve in the long term!

Recommendation: Make a commitment to schedule in 30 minutes to read a book, an educational or personal development article online, or watch videos/webinars relevant to your industry every day! Also, instead of listening to music in the car or while you work out, or instead of having the TV on while you do things around the house (shower, get ready, cook, clean, etc) turn on an audiobook or a recording of a expert speaking on something to grow your mind!

4) Do something that falls into the "Body" category- Your Body is the vehicle your use to achieve your dreams and, just like your actual vehicle, you have to maintain it to keep it performing at a high level! You wouldn't get on a plane if it looked broken down, you would get on a boat that looked like it could sink, and you wouldn't buy a car that had a rotten engine in it. So why would you live in a body that looks like a mess?

This is the biggest area I see people make excuses in, but by simply changing your diet a little bit and committing to make healthy choices in the kitchen and when you eat out, you can change everything in your life. Your body is a temple, treat it like one!

Get in the routine of exercising every day! If you have to, start small and just go for a walk, but doing something to get in better physical shape will boost your energy levels, lifts your mood, increases your learning abilities, builds self esteem, reduce stress, boost mental health, boost your immune system, increase creativity and overall brain function, and improve your overall quality of life! This is just the short list, but I won't go into too much detail here!

Recommendation: Drink 16 oz of water when you first wake up, make healthier choices in the kitchen, and work out for at least 30 minutes every day! That is a great start!

5) Set goals, review them daily and set goals for tomorrow every evening: Set long term goals and deconstruct them to figure out medium and short terms goals as well! This will give you simple to-do lists for set time periods and from there you can set your daily to-do lists.

Every evening before you go to bed, review the accomplishments of the day (no matter how small) and WRITE DOWN your goals for tomorrow! If you want to make paper, write it on paper! Writing down your goals and accomplishments in a journal, it will keep you accountable to work towards your long term goals.

Recommendation: Set 3 year, 1 year, 6 month, 90 day, 30 day, 7 day, and 24 hour goals! Keep those goals written down and review them often. If you want to REALLY keep yourself accountable, share them with someone and ask them to hold you to it! This person will serve as your 'accountability partner' and will make sure that you dont get off task. Continued support from those around you and consistent persistence is the only way to achieve your long term success!

Thanks you checking out my daily habit recommendations, and I challenge you to try them for 30 days. I promise, you will see positive changes!
